I will be arriving earlier/later than the stated check-in time. Can I still check in?

Usually this is not a problem; you can arrange for an after-hours check-in with most hotels. However, you should always confirm with the hotel. You can use the "Special Requests" box in the booking process to inform them of your estimated arrival time in writing. It's important to remember that the property can't always accommodate these requests. It's always best to check with the property directly and in advance to avoid confusion. You can contact the hotel directly by calling them, the local telephone number you can get from Nehow's Local Guide after you finish the booking.

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

A late check-out can only be arranged with the hotel and usually depends on availability at the time of your stay. You can ask about the possibility at the front desk upon arrival.

  • Nice room but some serious service issues
London, UK | Oct 11, 2015 | Trip type: Couples

Happy with the room but other aspects of the hotel let me down. Here's a summary:
    Good Points
    1) Room: Large king-size bed with ample space for a work table and small couch. Floor to ceiling windows makes for good views of the city during night and day. Large, swivel flat screen TV for easing viewing of TV from anywhere in the room. Provision of a foot massage machine was a nice touch.
    2) Washroom: Large washroom with separate toilet, bath tub and shower.
    3) Amenities: Usual provision of amenities as expected (e.g. shampoo, toothbrush, shaver, mineral water, etc.).
    4) Housekeeping: The standard of housekeeping was very consistent everyday. Everything was replenished without needing to chase up on anything.
    5) Location: If you're familiar with Beijing and like taking walks, then the location of this hotel is incredibly convenient. It's only a 20 minute walk to Sanlitun. Alternatively, there is a subway station right next to the hotel (Liangmaqiao Station) which allows for easy access to the rest of the city.
    6) There is a City Mall right next to the hotel if you're interested in shopping for luxury goods. There is also a large selection of restaurants and cafes to choose from.
    Negative Points
    1) Bell boys: On arrival at the hotel, there were a couple of bell boys standing at the ready at the front of the hotel, but for some reason, I had to open the boot and start unloading the bags myself before the bell boys decided to come over and give me a hand. This was quite a disappointing start to our stay.
    2) Check In: All aspects went very smooth but there was no communication to me about where breakfast was going to be and how to access the wifi. Would have expected this to be the norm when checking in.
    3) Toilet: The toilet in our room smelt of cigarette smoke. This was very disappointing... the hotel probably can't do much about the guests smoking in the room but I would have expected housekeeping to clear the smell completely before turning the room back to reception for check in. Some hotels in London charge an extra night stay if the guests smoke in the room, perhaps Westin could implement this in Beijing?
    4) Bath Tub: I'm not sure if this problem was the same in every room, but the hot water flow was really weak in our room which meant that it took about 20 minutes to fill up the bath tub every time I wanted to soak.
    5) Room Service: On one occasion, we ordered room service but I thought the quality was incredibly poor. I ordered fish and chips but the batter on the fish was soggy and the fish wasn't cod. Salad on the other hand was palatable.
    6) Breakfast: The spread of the breakfast buffet was quite large, with Western and Eastern choices. Even though the staff was very busy every morning, I was quite impressed with their service, I felt they were trying as hard as they could to accommodate the daily, morning frenzy. I just wish they could improve on the taste of their breakfast, I tried something different every morning but always felt the food was mass produced and lacking in flavour.
    7) Swimming Pool: I wish the hotel would have told us in advance that we needed swimming caps and goggles to use the pool, then we would have prepared in advance. Perhaps due to the language barrier, we weren't advised where we could go to buy said items either.
    8) Check Out: When the receptionist asked for my credit card on check out and swiped my card, she didn't ask me if I would prefer to pay in GBP or RMB and just made the choice herself. I wasn't aware of this until I signed the credit card receipt and noticed that GBP had already been chosen. Considering it's my credit card, I think it's only right that she should have asked me which currency denomination I would prefer to pay in rather than making the choice herself.
Westin is an internationally recognised brand and I really expected more in terms of service. The room was very comfortable but if I take my experience as a whole, I don't think I would be coming back to stay at the Westin in the future, there are many better choices in Beijing to choose from.

  • Great customer service makes for a great stay
Tauranga, New Zealand | Oct 5, 2015 | Trip type: Business

This was my first time staying at The Westin Beijing Chaoyang. I'm SPG Lifetime Gold, and had intended to stay at the Sheraton, but was deterred by the really bad reviews, so decided to stay at the Westin instead, as they are close. The location is convenient to the airport train, and the Sanlitun expat area on the third ring road, and a lot of international embassies.
It is also right on top of the Liangmaqiao subway station on Line 10. The subway station is literally one minute walk outside the hotel.
This is a really nice hotel, with beautiful and spacious decor, and a large lounge area in the lobby.
I was upgraded to a beautiful corner room on the 27th floor, with panoramic windows. Naturally, the Westin bed is a luxury. I also had executive floor privileges, so had breakfast in the exec lounge each morning. The breakfast buffet was very good for an executive lounge, and the staff very attentive.
I found the staff at reception, the concierge desk, and the bell hop all extremely willing to go the extra mile for me when I needed something, which totally changes the nature of the stay.
If you are looking for a 5 star stay, in the north east of the Beijing CBD, the Westin comes highly recommended!

  • As good as hotels get? At least close to it!
Columbia, South Carolina | Oct 1, 2015 | Trip type: Couples

Spouse and I stayed here 4 nights in mid-September 2015, at the beginning of a Viking River Cruise tour of China. It was our base hotel for seeing Beijing. It is an impressive and very welcoming hotel, with great views of the city with most helpful concierge and desk personnel. Additionally the main restaurant (1st floor) where we ate all breakfasts and 2 of 4 dinners had more choices than I have ever seen in a restaurant. There were Chinese and western choices, and the breakfasts had everything any one could want for a breakfast. The staff was very friendly and efficient – for example – we messed up the combination of the safe in our room, and had to have someone come and reprogram it. They came within 15 minutes of our request. The rooms were elegantly furnished; immaculately clean and supplied with multiple water bottles (replaced daily, refrigerator (with stuff for sale), coffee pot (free), etc. . . large screen TV – multiple English channels, very comfortable beds, etc. The bathroom was large, super clean and very comfortable with both a shower and a separate tub and supplied with more water bottles and various toiletries. What more can one ask for? The Business center was free (I do not know if that was because I requested computer use) or for all guests. The gym – which I did not use, was large & full of equipment, next to a large inviting swimming pool. This is a top of the line hotel, but I doubt if I would have paid for it if it were not part of the package tour. In in any case it was a great place to stay.

  • 3 night stay at Westin Chaoyang
    Susan C
Gloucester, United Kingdom | Sep 30, 2015 | Trip type: Couples

This is a very clean hotel with good food .There is so much choice at breakfast from English, European to Chinese. Good view from 23 floor. Clean and comfortable bathrooms but you will need arms about four foot long to use the hair dryer which obviously designed by a man ( a bit controversial here)
There is small shopping center nearby but you really need to get a taxi or use the underground to get to the real shopping. Real ale bar across the road which sells lots of German beer. Very good but very expensive £26+ for two and a half pints (watch out for the service charge) You will need a beer before you dare cross the road as a green light for you to walk and red for traffic to stop is as out rep put it "only a suggestion" and you will get beeped at if you dare to cross.
We visited when the president of one of the African countries was staying and security was full on. They would not let us take through our duty free Gin or my nail scissors . You could not go to the reception area to look out to see if it was still raining (which it did a lot) without at least two staff asking if they could help you. I like service but I did feel like I needed a bit of space at times. I dont know if its always this way or whether it was just addition security because of the important guests.

  • My go-to hotel in Beijing
    T L
New York City, New York | Sep 25, 2015 | Trip type: Business

Rooms are very well appointed; location is ideal, close to the embassy district and public transportation. You can even go running in the Sanglitan area which is closed to most traffic. The breakfast buffet is one of the best in town--lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.
