I will be arriving earlier/later than the stated check-in time. Can I still check in?

Usually this is not a problem; you can arrange for an after-hours check-in with most hotels. However, you should always confirm with the hotel. You can use the "Special Requests" box in the booking process to inform them of your estimated arrival time in writing. It's important to remember that the property can't always accommodate these requests. It's always best to check with the property directly and in advance to avoid confusion. You can contact the hotel directly by calling them, the local telephone number you can get from Nehow's Local Guide after you finish the booking.

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

A late check-out can only be arranged with the hotel and usually depends on availability at the time of your stay. You can ask about the possibility at the front desk upon arrival.

  • Great hotel in fuzhou
Fuzhou, China | Feb 19, 2018 | Trip type: Couples

The reason why we chose this hotel is because it has an international buffet, which did not disappoint. The staff is friendly and helpful even if their English is non existent. They even helped us get a cab through a ride share app. Highly recommend this hotel! Great location in the middle of the city.

  • Great hotel but it can be better.
    Jan 23, 2018 | Trip type: Couples

Great location, great atmosphere, the club looks on the city square and a Mao monuments that make magnificent views at night.
The rooms are well appointed and quiet.
The only let down is the variety of breakfast compared to 2 years ago when we stayed in the hotel again.
A little more effort can do miracles.

  • Less than a typical Shangri-La
Singapore, Singapore | Dec 18, 2017 | Trip type: Family

Out family of 8 stayed for 3 nights in 4 rooms. The rooms are large and comfortable, but clearly a bit older. Depending on which side of the hotel you are on, it can be a little noisy (facing Wuyi Square). The noise will die down at about 9pm or 10pm when the activities stop. If you are keen, walk across the square in the evening to check out all the activities (lots of dancing, taichi, communal singing). The hotel is also within walking distance to the White Pagoda.

We had breakfast which was lovely. As this is a hotel in China, it was almost expected that the Western food was not that good. the sausages were strange and the bacon was hard (not crispy). The eggs were often overcooked. The Chinese food was much better. There is a noodle station, where you can select the items you would like to have and also the type of noodle. They had unusual items like pig's blood in cubes, something I ate as a child but can't have anymore in my home country.

Overall, It was a comfortable stay but I did not get the sense it was a Shangri-La. Perhaps it was just a tired older version.

  • Distinctly Average
    Nov 24, 2017 | Trip type: Business

Stayed here for work for 3 days and it only gets a 'so so' rating from me.

On check in, there were a few people waiting and there weren't enough staff to at the desks. Two guests proceeded to push in ahead of me once one of the check-in staff had finished a call, and the staff member continued to serve them without observing who was waiting in the queue. Annoying, but easily solved once I informed the guests and staff to follow queueing ettiquette.

The hotel itself looks rather dated on the inside, which is in contrast to how it looks from the outside. The room I was given also looked dated, but it was well lit and
at least everything seemed clean. The bed was big and comfortable and there were enough pillows to suit my requirements. BIG WARNING: I was given a room that had an adjoining room, which in hindsight I wished I had changed as on the 3rd night I stayed there, I was treated to a loud screaming performance which woke me up from the adjoining and continued for half an hour. I've never been given a room like this previously in a 5 star hotel and I don't know why the hotel would do so for a solo traveller. Management were apologetic the following morning, but obviously the damage was done and a good night's sleep was not had which resulted in a tiring working day.

There is also a lot of noise from outside from the main square. On the days I was there, there were the usual large group of dancing men and women, blaring out their high tempo cheesy music.

There biggest problem with this hotel was the breakfast buffet which is probably one of the worst I have ever had in a 5 star hotel. If there were a McDonalds next to the hotel, then I would rather eat there. To start with, the breakfast starts at 6.30 although the stated start time in the hotel room was 6.00am. At 6.30am, much of the western hot food was cold. This included eggs, sausages, bacon, potatoes and beans. None of the food tasted particularly fresh or of a high quality. The eggs looked like plastic and the sausages had the texture of rubber. The hotel proudly displayed Heinz Baked Beans around the restaurant, but the beans themselves tasted like they had been mixed with detergent. Their bread selection was poor and the Danish pastries looked bland and were stale. The cereals were also stale and I ended up leaving a bowl of cereal on the side too. I ended up leaving half of the food as it was hugely unappetising. Again I spoke to the management on the first day who were very apologetic and informed me that they were aware of the food quality issues, but given that the food remained the same poor standard during the rest of my stay, being aware and actually doing something about it are two different things. As I said, I would much prefer McDonalds.

There are a couple of good thing about the hotel. The gym is large and well equipped. Gym junkies out there could easily spend 2-3 hours in the gym and get a very good workout. Service seems to be good with drivers being excellent and management appearing to want to help.

  • Almost excellent...
    U C
Singapore, Singapore | Nov 22, 2017 | Trip type: Business

One almost expects impeccable experience with shang and i was taken aback by the smoke smell in my non smoking room. It was just bearable so i didn't ask to change room.

Everything else was perfect. Gym which is always important to me was very well equipped. The indoor pool is a massive 25m pool (by indoor hotel standard) but unfortunately was being maintained when i was staying there.

In the locals' view this is now considered a grand old dame. Many newer international hotels have sprung up in the last 10 years. I see a large piece of land just beside stating shangrila phase 2 and 3. When completed it will raise the offering of this already very good hotel.
