Room Picture is different from actual room
Sambo CPhnom Penh, Cambodia | May 24, 2017 | Trip type: Business
The hotel has what it advertises for however the Internet is a slow to meet today internet standard speed and performance.
How its location is good for Canton Fair or other exhibitions around the area.
Good for the fair
Sleeman NNov 5, 2016 | Trip type: Business
Hotel is ok 8 minutes walking to the fair. Location is only good for the fair. 20 min from City nothing open after 9 pm. A little pricy for rooms and service. Acceptable breakfast. Nice staff very helpful
location good to the fair. thats it
CarmelaTanShenzhen | Mar 11, 2015 | Trip type: Business
if your visiting the fair this hotel is very very good. but thats it. nothing more.
bed is good. room is well ventilated. down side is the walls are very very thin. noise from the other room can be heard. even when they flush their toilet. pipes are loud. hot water needs some time to reheat.
we transferred to suite room the following day. no difference in terms of noise. and in terms of view. beds are the same. the only difference is a balcony. however no seat / chairs for hanging around the balcony. they didn't put the advantage of the balcony to use. such a pity.
language with front office needs a bit of patience but for starters their doing a good job. elevator is troublesome during office hours. theres a convenient store on the basement of the building but closes at 8pm. anything after that is dead.
perfect for fair stays

The Commatel hotel is located next to the Pazhou exhibition complex in Guangzhou. Be mindful that the hotel is located within a high rise office building. At major trade fair time traffic congestion wastes a lot of time in getting to and from the fair exhibits, hence this hotel's location is a definite time saver. Rooms are modest and have all basic needs, showers are a good size. Room rate is very competitive in comparison to other hotels. Breakfast is basic. But we usually hop across to the Shangri-La for a feast, also good for some refreshments after a hard day of tromping around the fair. Shangri-La is a great hotel but at double the price of the Commatel when you only need a comfortable bed to sleep at night, the Commatel is very enticing. Downside is that this area is pretty much 'dead' in the evening, so if you want to go to the livelier areas of Guangzhou (for example Beijing Lu/Road) need a taxi ride (not expensive - but be sure to have the hotel's card showing the name and address in Chinese as some local taxi drivers don't understand English), there is also a metro station within a short walk.
I hope by writing such reviews such hotels don't become more popular hence start to put prices up!
Yiwu Commatel Review
E_White8989Bangkok, Krung Thep, Thailand | Jun 2, 2014 | Trip type: Business
I went to Guangzhou, China to attend a meeting/trade show that was being held at the Pazhou Complex that is nearby. This hotel was arranged and booked by a travel agent that someone at my company knows, basically a friend of a friend so to speak.
When we pulled up to the hotel after the 450 Yuan taxi drive from the hotel, I was a bit taken by what I was seeing. I had to look a few times to see if this actually was the hotel since its outer appearance looks just like an office building and not a hotel. There were people all over the front of the sidewalk getting ready for another trade event that was going on nearby as well. I was not impressed that there are no bell services to assist with luggage transport to the hotel from the street, nor from the lobby to the room. Other than that the first impression of this hotel just from looking at it was “Meh”.
In order to get to your room, or to the elevators for that matter; you need to walk into the café and then out a pair of doors that if you are any wider than a normal person it would be best to turn sideways and put your luggage first before you go in. Once in the room I stopped to look around before entering completely. The room did not smell too bad; it had a clean scent to it. The beds were neatly made and the floors appeared to be clean. When I entered the bathroom I was a bit taken in by the size of the shower, which was massive. There was enough room to fit 10 people in there if needed.
The room layout was ok, and my business partner and I had a good view of the convention hall that we would be going on the next morning. I was not too crazy about the fact that the shower is right next to the bed and that the wall is a nearly transparent clear wall with a thin cloth like curtain to block. The lighting in the bathroom will however toss your silhouette onto the curtain, so if you are not alone or there on business with a colleague I suggest that you find something else to look at other than the silhouette of your room mate as they wash.
I was not impressed with a few issues I found in the room. The handle for the window in the bedroom area was broken, the light switch between the beds were broken, the lamp between the beds had exposed wires of which I was zapped by, the phone in the bedroom did not work and the space behind the bathroom sink and around the seal of the sink is completely black with mildew and other unidentifiable things. Another issue that we had was that the toilet leaked like it had holes in it or something.
The front desk was advised of these issues on Thursday 29th May, however only the Lamp issue was resolved. The other above listed problems still remains as of 31 May from my check out.
This hotel is an interesting one to say the least, however do not expect thing at this hotel to be as they are at other star rated hotel properties. This hotel does not have bell service or room service. I am still wondering how they get the rating they did, and who it was that rated it.
The restaurant/ Café on the ground floor is ok, and the staff although they have a limited English speaking ability try as hard as they can to understand you the best they can.The breakfast was not too bad. Mostly it is common foods you would see in an Asian/South East Asian hotel however there were some western surprises there. They served poached, fried or scrambled eggs as well as a sausage like meat and or Spam type meat alternating which was not too bad. The downside to the breakfast is you had better be a drinker of coffee, warm room temperature milk or like the local unknown liquid they called a drink available.I opted to buy the water or coke from over the counter in the café as I was having none of that other mess.
The internet is very slow; however sometimes at 3am you might get a spike and actually move a bit faster than paint drying. Do not expect to access Facebook, Google, Youtube or another other social media that most people outside of China use. They have their own version; however I would not recommend it.
The location of the hotel is just right for the nearby convention centers that surround the area. All of them are within walking distance. I highly recommend using the underground to walk there as it is a bit cooler faster and you can stop at one of the many places to get a cool drink too. If you want to go to other locations in the city, the underground is most likely your best bet. It did not seem to be that crowed and they moved efficiently and smoothly. If you are in the area for a convention the hotel is a good location, if you are there to see the sights and tour the city, choose a hotel that is closer to downtown area.
The hotel with the exception of the things I said above is not too bad. The crew at the front desk speaks somewhat good English and is helpful with whatever you need. The hotel’s location is good for the business person looking for a place to sleep while attending tradeshows etc.
There are a number of western style restaurants in the underground to eat at if you do not like the local food, but be warned that mostly everything is completely closed by 6pm at the latest. There are a few places that remain open a bit longer, but not by much.
I would only recommend staying here if you are attending a nearby event as the rooms are not that bad other than a few issues I said above and other minor things are tolerable. Just have a little patience with the staff for some things as they appear to try to help the best that they can.
