I will be arriving earlier/later than the stated check-in time. Can I still check in?

Usually this is not a problem; you can arrange for an after-hours check-in with most hotels. However, you should always confirm with the hotel. You can use the "Special Requests" box in the booking process to inform them of your estimated arrival time in writing. It's important to remember that the property can't always accommodate these requests. It's always best to check with the property directly and in advance to avoid confusion. You can contact the hotel directly by calling them, the local telephone number you can get from Nehow's Local Guide after you finish the booking.

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

A late check-out can only be arranged with the hotel and usually depends on availability at the time of your stay. You can ask about the possibility at the front desk upon arrival.

  • Nice setting, old structure, poor service
    Andrea F
    Oct 26, 2015 | Trip type: Couples

The location is great and the hotel structure is also nice, although it is huge. What made our experience difficult and borderline poor was the language barrier that made the service very painful and frustrating at times. English is not widely spoken and even ordering two coffees became an overwhelming experience.
Of the four restaurants we tried Sofia was the one we liked the most, thanks to the efforts of Italian chef Vacca.
Rooms are generally clean although some additional attention would be required, in my opinion, to avoid finding used band-aids (nobody of us was using them) in the showers or cleaning the water kettle every now and then.
A good choice for Sanya, overall i expected a bit more from a ritz Carlton.

  • Don't want to leave...
Shanghai Region, China | Oct 3, 2015 | Trip type: Family

My family and I have been staying at the Sanya RC Yalong bay for 3 days and have another 3 nights to go but we do not want to leave. It goes without saying that we are very much enjoying our stay mainly for the impeccable customer service and very family-friendly atmosphere. Thumbs up:
    1. Perfect car pickup service, which we booked ahead, despite the airport construction issue. We had to take a shuttle bus with our baby in stroller, toddler and 3 luggages just to get to a parking lot but the driver helped us with everything.
    2. Arrival to a beautiful grand lobby hotel with a nice welcome greeting which included a necklace. Check-in directly from our Club Room went smoothly for a late arrival. Ariel was very friendly and accommodating. Answered all of our questions although we did receive an old Ritz Kids activities schedule listed as "2015" with some confusion on times and activities but that was totally a minor issue.
    3. Club Room is very clean and spacious for a family of 4, with a Beautiful view of the mountain, ocean and pools and garden.
    4. Sofia restaurant has excellent Italian food. Outstanding service from Alexi.
    5. 95% Stroller friendly grounds from room to pools and even to beach. Somebody would always appear out of nowhere to help us with our stroller on the few steps that was needed.
    6. Simply outstanding service in the areas we've been in which includes the Club Lounge, Sofia, Sands, Infinity pool area and especially the Ritz Kids play area. Everybody goes above and beyond to make us happy and comfortable especially for a family with a 3 year old and newborn. So happy to see the care and attention to detail that Franco and the team at Ritz kids put in. Also, the staff at the Infinity pool were very helpful in preparing a Cabana for us especially when a little rain was coming.
    7. Definitely worth getting the club room with includes an important benefit of club Lounge access. Their afternoon tea included a service for children which my 3yo enjoyed very much.
    8. So much to do! Great daily activities for the whole family from crab watching on the beach to Tai Chi.
    Opportunities for Improvement:
    1. We are avid Apple TV users and like to travel with it but unfortunately our TV did not have HDMI input.

  • Five-Star Resort but Three-Star Experience of Mine (Sadly)
Irvine, California | Sep 5, 2015 | Trip type: Couples

First time staying at this hotel, had a lot of expectation. After checking out, I would definitely say we had some misses here.
First and foremost, the hotel itself is absolutely top-notch along the stretch of Yalong Bay. I’ve stayed at Sheraton and Hilton nearby, and this RC is the best among them. I particularly like the service provided by the Club Level Staff. The lounge is probably the best I’ve been to, never too crowded, and the food and service provided are ample and delicate. Also the main swimming pool is quite nice, with sufficient beach chairs around so that we did get one whenever we wanted.
The problems? I was never imagining this RC to be a family vacation spot. So if you are coming here for romance, I’d suggest you fly further to Bali or Phuket. Nearly all the guests here are families with crying babies, and it’s really hard to find some peace, no matter to which part of the hotel that you go. Even in the Club Lounge you’d hear babies screaming. Also, the breakfast at the main breakfast venue is crowded and chaotic. Getting the first cup of black coffee takes at least ten minutes. The food offerings are plentiful but plain. I enjoyed the breakfast in the Club Lounge much better even though there are fewer food options.
The room we had is lovely and modern and luxurious. The bathroom has a cast iron bathtub, a rain forest shower head, and double sinks, all worked very well for us. The balcony is very large and the chairs on that are relaxing.
The problem we had with the room is that we were assigned a joint room without being informed, and the double doors separating us with our stranger neighbor has zero sound proofing… They complained about our music playing (only 2/3 of the max volume of the Philips speaker that comes with the room), and we were suffering with their crying babies while sleeping.
Also, the mattress is probably the worst I’ve come across within the RC chain. It bounces and sways too much. Every night I was waken when my wife moved or got up. Maybe it’s time to upgrade to mattresses with individual springs, RC.
And, the air conditioning is really weak…
Now, I would like to express my biggest anger resulted from this stay. It’s about the benefits that I should receive by using the Ritz Carlton Rewards Credit Card. I pay $395 each year to keep that card, and I expect the Club Level Upgrade Certificates and other benefits when staying at RCs can be worthwhile. While I didn’t encounter problems redeeming the certificates as I don’t mind paying the regular rate just so that I can actually use the certificates, there were bunch of problems waiting for me at the hotel. First, the hotel staff told me that the $100 hotel credit that should be available to me because I’m paying for a stay of more than one night, is not mentioned in the rate description. Therefore they cannot honor that benefit. I’ve only used that benefit twice before, both at RC Seoul and without any problem. So even though I’m quite not happy, I’ve no idea which party I should blame, the hotel? RC Rewards? The person who did my certificate redeeming? Or Chase? If this is an official credit card from RC Rewards, I’d expect all RCs will be trained to offer the benefits to cardholders even though the card is exclusively offered in North America. I’d understand if the Club Level Upgrade can be unavailable due to capacity reasons, but I never fully understand why the $100 hotel credit can be capacity controlled, when apparently I’m the only guest at this resort carrying this credit card. There are some major implementation issues across the RC chain that need to be solved, or I’ll seriously consider whether I should carry that card anymore.
What kind of really angered me is when in the morning of the last day, we were told by the main breakfast venue that our room doesn’t come with breakfast offered there, and it only contains breakfast offered in the Club Lounge. None of the other several RCs I’ve been to distinguish lounge breakfast and breakfast venue breakfast, so this is quite a first to me and I really don’t believe having to remember what you have and what you don’t have is a pleasant thing to do while vacationing. The point of spending a lot of money on a top resort is to fully enjoy yourself without the worries, right? Certainly I didn’t have that kind of peace of mind here… I suspect this problem also stems from the using of club level upgrade certificates. The rate difference from an Ocean View Room to a Club Ocean View Room is less than $150, and I must be presented with all these hurdles… That’s why I stay at InterContinentals whenever possible, because at ICs if you’re upgraded to club levels, you get what all club level paying guests have, and they never say you can only eat breakfast here but not there. Here at this RC, I’m simply redeeming a certificate that comes with a hefty annual fee, and the experience tells me that I should just pay the full rate next time if I ever wanna return and don’t rely on the benefits of some premium credit cards.
Here I would like to deliver a special, special, and great Thankyou to Ms. Cherry Zhao from the Club Lounge. She really went beyond her call of duty to solve the hotel credit issue of mine, when calls to Ritz Carlton Rewards in China and in USA generated no solutions. Please accept my appreciation, Cherry~
All in all, it is a very solid five-star resort, and you can feel the genuine service that you’d expect for a RC, from the hotel staff at all places. I enjoyed its gym, basketball court, swimming pool, beach, but really had a bad experience with its bedding and its implementation of the benefits of the only official Ritz Carlton credit card. For the sake of fairness, if you just pay the full rates, and don’t mind the loud kids, I think the resort is one of the best along the Yalong Bay. For me? I’ll probably try the St. Regis next door next time to have a better comparison. Based on the conversation between me and a front desk staff member there, I understand that that St. Regis does a much better job recognizing elite status, like upgrading to suite and offering full breakfast to top SPG members. Well it is so much the case when comparing the programs of SPG and RC Rewards (Marriott Rewards).

  • Our favorite vacation place
Shanghai, China | Aug 30, 2015 | Trip type: Family

This is our favorite vacation place in the whole world - at least the one that we frequent the most. We have probably stayed at the hotel a couple dozen times. They know us now by name. We live in Shanghai, and with two children, Sanya has been the vacation of choice, with the beach and just a few hours away. We go probably 2-3 times a year for the last decade and a half.
We have stayed at almost every resort on Yalong Bay, and the Ritz outclasses them all, though admittedly we have not stayed yet at the St. Regis or the Park Hyatt, but we have no plans ever to try them given our attachment to the Ritz. And why? The service is unparalleled. Everytime we go, we feel like we are treated like VIPs. The resort itself is spectacular with the best rooms and pools in the area, and the breakfast is excellent as well. But, it's the special services. I read somewhere that Ritz employees have a daily monetary budget to spend on customers to make them feel special, and we definitely notice the difference. The sous chef cooks up some awesome clams for us - all on the house! Kitchen sends us fruit, chopped up, again free. We get upgraded to villas regularly. The general manager of the hotel is there at the entrance to greet us and to bid us goodbye. Now, I realize the treatment we get may be because we are now frequent visitors, but even during our first visit, we felt this was a place unlike any other. I am a Hyatt Diamond member, and they can treat you super well too, but the special treatment here is on another level.
Only thing is that the beach after a typhoon last year, is no where as nice as it used to be. Now, it's a super steep hill of sand that goes down from the beach chairs/cabanas.
Anyways, we love this place and will be back many times more. St. Regis looks nice, but we just can't bring ourselves to tear ourselves away from the Ritz given the special service.
