Great place to stay, drinks way too expensive!
Dine-Out-FoxOct 1, 2015 | Trip type: Couples
We stayed 5 nights in this great hotel. Room was super, with ocean view, balcony, etc. staff very friendly and helpful (even had a nurse ready to bring some medicine when one of us developed a slight sun allergy). We tried food at almost all of its restaurants, ranging from sea food platter hot pot for two, to all you can eat sea food buffet to pizza and burgers. We definitely think that a mandatory service charge of 15% is by 5%-points too high and that beverages as well as drinks and coffee/tee outside the breakfast period are way too expensive. We would have definitely purchased and consumed more beverages/etc. but were reluctant to do so because of their prices.
Directly next to Intercontinental is the Beer Factory which to our understanding is part of the group. They brew three kinds of non filtered beers (lager, dark and weissbeer). All a welcome alternative to local beers so far away from Germany.
We had another sea food buffet at the beer factory on one of the nights, unfortunately, this couldn't compete with the one at the intercontinental's restaurant the night before.

We got a bit lost at the property as the resort is very big. The bathroom was amazing we also had sea view from our room. The food was excellent. The beach was empty during day and after sunset it got crowded by the local people. There are several pools around but the strange thing was that the water was super hot not cooling as normal with 50 degrees out.
Could be better than it is!
Cosmopolitus1Paris, France | Sep 18, 2015 | Trip type: Business
The resort is located on a very beautiful site and the architecture reflects a lot of thought. Service and food were very good -- EXCELLENT is a mere potential.
It starts with the worn out furniture at check-in. You feel like sitting in a hole so overused is the seat!
While the registration style is good -- you sit opposite the receptionist, but his face is hidden behind a computer screen with even an aluminum wall. A semi-sunk slanting screen mounting would permit contact with you while you are waiting.
Once you have managed finding your room -- finding back to the lobby at night, is a genuine challenge as signage is not illuminated. We were 4 who stayed at different rooms and we all had the identical problems.
For example, I landed last night at the supplier area, moved on from there to the hotel laundry plant, where an employee had merci with me and guided me to an English speaking phone operator who had enough initiative to bring me to the hotel lobby.
Going from there to one of the very dispersed restaurants on that huge hotel setting, was another guess work.
The resort floor level is occasionally changing elevations, and when the unexpected variance occurred, I nearly tripped. It happened at 2 to me at different areas. There is neither a light, nor an indication, nor any warning! Beware pregnant women and women with kids on their arm!
In the beautiful designer bathroom, we all 4 shared the same experience: As a guest, "You are expected to KNOW" that the sink drainage functions only when you push the drainage cover DOWN. What a logic that is! You have to make a CLOSING MOVE to open the drainage!
To make the water run, you are using a metal stick, kind of a joy stick. To find hot water and to close the water, you must first gain experience... what a water waste!
Th desk lamp consists of a modern black zig-zag device. None of us 4 actually was able last night to find the toggle switch. It is situated on the right hand side at an angle on the zig-zag that is completely out of sight when you sit at the desk. I only found it this morning with natural day light.
The employees are good, the setting is great, the room and the restaurants are fine. Could the hotel be better? Yes -- it surely could.
Will I return: Yes, now that I have undergone a self training seminar, I most likely will.
May I give the interior designer and the hotel operator a hint: "KISS" Keep it Simple, and Stupid, that after a long trip, a consumer will find what he expects at the spot he expects.
Amazing, peaceful hotel in Hainan

Very nice hotel. Rooms are clean and private and very luxurious, with huge indoor and outdoor bathtubs and great views of the water. All are within a couple minutes' walk of the beach, which is very private and not crowded (by Sanya standards). Intercontinental shares it with only a couple more hotels.
Food options are great, with seafood, Asian and Western restaurants all serving delicious food. Getting the club room is definitely worth it, as the club is one of the nicest areas in the hotel and they do great breakfast, brunch and cocktail hour.
Service is very attentive. Lots of little private areas. The outdoor pool is huge and great for swimming.
One of best resort I have been to so far
aVforVendettaSep 4, 2015 | Trip type: Couples
We have spent quite a lot of time to look for a hotel in Sanya to spend the week end with my wife and kid.
We leave and shanghai and wanted to spend some relaxing time.
This hotel has proven to be the perfect place.
We were hosted at the club.
The room was amazing and the different swimming pools and amenities are gorgeous.
The staff has been very kind to us.
Of course no place is perfect: the beach is a bit rocky and the squared buildings built on the sea side are not very good looking.
All in all this is one of the best resort I have been to!
