I will be arriving earlier/later than the stated check-in time. Can I still check in?

Usually this is not a problem; you can arrange for an after-hours check-in with most hotels. However, you should always confirm with the hotel. You can use the "Special Requests" box in the booking process to inform them of your estimated arrival time in writing. It's important to remember that the property can't always accommodate these requests. It's always best to check with the property directly and in advance to avoid confusion. You can contact the hotel directly by calling them, the local telephone number you can get from Nehow's Local Guide after you finish the booking.

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

A late check-out can only be arranged with the hotel and usually depends on availability at the time of your stay. You can ask about the possibility at the front desk upon arrival.

My wife and I stayed here on our wedding night. It is extremely expensive, but I used a lot of air miles to make it reasonable. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to spend it.
Upon arrival, a concierge takes your bag and asks if you're staying and your name. By the time we arrived at reception, a duty manager was there to greet us and take us directly to our room. Check-in was done in the room using a hand held scanner!
The room was not that large, but very well finished and decorated in a period style to suit the main building on The Bund. Everything was perfect right down to the TV in the bathroom shaving mirror to the complimentary roses left for the special occasion.
The hotel public areas are austere and include the famous Longbar that was part of the gentleman's club that originally occupied this imposing building in the British Quarter of Shanghai on The Bund.
    Great hotel.

  • a luxury treat

Melbourne, Australia | Oct 24, 2015 | Trip type: Business

We were upgraded to a river view room with a view across to the fabulous Pudong skyline. It was a treat to watch it come to life as it lights up in the evening. The room was fit for royalty. Simply the most amazing linens ever; I still dream of them. There was a TV embedded in the bathroom, touch screen controls at bedside, full black-out curtains over the windows. We very much enjoyed our stay here even though it broke the bank. Although the service was good, this is a large and fairly impersonal hotel, and we felt much more welcomed at the Four Seasons in Pudong. Indeed our stay there was so amazing that if had to choose which hotel to return to in Shanghai, it would be the Four Seasons -- it was an experience we will not forget. That said, the Waldorf Astoria was impeccable, and if you want to stay on the Bund and have money to burn (or want HHilton points), you won't regret staying here. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, with endless choices, all of them delectable.

  • The Grand Old Lady of Shanghai!
    HJRN
Hong Kong, China | Oct 22, 2015 | Trip type: Couples

Currently staying here on a 11 night stay that is just amazing! The first time we came to Shanghai in 2011, we wanted to see, how the very complicated project, of turning a colonial building into a 290 rooms & suites hotel, had turned out. The monument & renovation laws, within in this area of Shanghai, are extremely strict, in order to save this beautiful heritage for future generations. A project such as this, is almost impossible to do, since every single detail has to be approved by the city authorities and original details need to remain in the building.
Well, The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on The Bund surpassed every possible expectation! They managed to bring a new "Grand Old Lady" to the most beautiful & prestigious area in the city. The location is unique, since it is right in the historic city centre of Shanghai, on the river bank, within walking distance of the city sights, museums, attractions & nightlife. For those who would like to relive the grandeur of Shanghai in the 1920's with today's modern comforts and impeccable service, this is the residence to seek.
Well before our arrival we were contacted by email. A dedicated Personal Concierge inquired if she needed to make any special arrangements and informed us about the many facilities of the property.
The arrival itself is always impressive, seeing the black & white Waldorf Astoria flag on the historic building, that has been converted into an elegant hotel. The property actually has two entrances. One at the front on The Bund, the riverside boulevard, which gives easy access to the bar & restaurants and the rooms & suites of The Waldorf Astoria Club. A seperate section in the old colonial building that features beautifully renovated rooms & heritage suites with high ceilings and old time grandeur.
The other entrance is at the back, where the concierge desk & reception are located. This section gives you easy access to the newly constructed tower with 24 floors of guest rooms and suites. Rooms at the back face the city, rooms at the front face the river and/or & the famous Shanghai skyline of the new Pudong skyscraper area, which currently houses the second highest building in the world.
As soon as you walk into the building, you step back in time and are just overwhelmed by the splendor of the premises. High ceilings with crystal chandeliers, beautiful furniture and old details brought back to their original state. The reception area is very spacious, which insures a personal and private check-in experience.
The main hall at the back of the complex, functions as the lobby, with Peacock Alley, an all day lounge, where they serve drinks, pastries & high-tea. All served on stylish porcelain in very classic surroundings. A nice touch is the use of many Chinese artworks and furniture in all public areas.
One floor below is the Grand Brasserie, with an extensive breakfast buffet of the highest quality, also offering a wide range of a la carte breakfast choices, such as Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royal, omeletes, pancakes, waffles etcetera. For the true Waldorf splurge, a variety with Foie Gras and Truffle is also on the menu. The breakfast selection and service are on the number one spot of the many hotels we visited in the world. This particular Waldorf Astoria is the only one we know that offers breakfast complimentary to HIlton HHonors Diamond & Gold members. The Grand Brasserie is also open for a la carte lunch, dinner & the Sunday Champagne Brunch Buffet.
A the front of the building is The Long Bar, resembling a stylish & beautiful classic club, with with an impressive range of rare spirits, digestifs, cigars and excellent wines by the glass. Live music performances are staged several times a week, with great jazz & American songbook singers.
The hotel's signature French restaurant is also located on this level. We had dinner there on a previous visit to the city and were deeply impressed by the cuisine. Our expectations where very high, since the restaurant is managed by the well known Chef Jean-Philippe Dupas and features modern French cuisine.
We chose a multi-course menu with an arrangement of pairing wines. From the amuse to the last bite of the friandises, we were in culinary heaven. One magnificent dish after another, combined with perfect wines. The service was classic & excellent. Short & very entertaining explanations of every dish and the pairing wines were given.
The hotel also houses one of the best Chinese restaurants in Shanghai, named Wei Ying Ge. Located on the top floor of the old building, they converted the beautiful attick into a very stylish Asian culinary haven. The dishes, service and decor are amazing. If you are not to familiar with Chinese Haute Cuisine, the staff are very helpfull in selecting the right dishes for you. The scallops in black pepper sauce, chili prawns and pork neck with mushrooms are a must eat!
The hotel offers a high-end design indoor pool with relaxation space, sauna, steam room and spa showers on the third floor. A small but well equipped fitness centre and a luxury spa, are all located in this area, which also gives access to another nice feature, the Library Lounge. A large room with seats and couches, exclusively for hotel guest. The perfect place to read a book, newspaper or magazine from the extensive collection, while having a complimentary coffee, tea, juice or soft drink. This lounge is also a good location to meet for business, as it is very private.
We were upgraded to a beautifully appointed Deluxe River View Room of around 50sq meters on a high floor, with a large window overlooking The Bund and the Pudong skyline. All rooms feature a spacious and very practical walk-in closet. On a previous stay we stayed in a Luxury River View Suite, which has a seperate living room and measures over 100sq meters. We have stayed at other Waldorf Astoria hotels around the world, but the room design at this particular one is magnificent. Lighting, curtains and air-conditioning can be easily controlled from a bedside panel. The quality of furnishings and finishings are outstanding and very chIque. All possible details are thought of and executed to world class standards.
This includes the famous Waldorf Astoria bedding with an extensive pillow menu, Salvatore Ferragamo bathroom amenities, embroidered bath robes & slippers, top brand tea and coffee products (Nespresso) and much more. All this serviced by a wonderful and meticulous housekeeping team.
Of course there are other stylish hotels around the world that could match this hotel in Shanghai, but one factor is difficult to surpass: the team members of The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund. From the concierge, porters, security, reception, housekeeping, the restaurants, bar, pool & fitness center, and the Library Lounge, you just felt so appreciated for being their guest. Their personal greetings, enquiries about the quality of your stay and the question if they could do anything to make you even more comfortable, make you feel so very welcome. All of them anticipating to needs of which we didn't even realize we had them.
Some a them should be mentioned separately for their great work. Emily in Guest Relations, Vicky our Personal Concierge, Tracy at The Grand Brasserie and last but not least, the Dutch trio Elly, Linda & Margot. All of them perfect ambassadors for the Waldorf Astoria brand. We celebrated a special occasion during our stay and Elly, Linda & Margot ensured that we will never forget it. What a treat. Thank you ladies!
We stay an average of 70-90 nights a year in hotels within the Hilton portfolio, ranging from Doubletree, Hilton, Conrad to Waldorf Astoria. This gives us a very good reference in service standards within the group's portfolio. The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is there at the very top! We found our new home in Shanghai...

This is my fifth time staying in this hotel. Still have not try the swimming pool yet, I will try it next time during my stay. I stayed for two day this time. Every thing is what you expected from a five star hotel. I liked it very much. I will continue stay at this hotel when back to Shanghai. Keep up the good work.
