I will be arriving earlier/later than the stated check-in time. Can I still check in?

Usually this is not a problem; you can arrange for an after-hours check-in with most hotels. However, you should always confirm with the hotel. You can use the "Special Requests" box in the booking process to inform them of your estimated arrival time in writing. It's important to remember that the property can't always accommodate these requests. It's always best to check with the property directly and in advance to avoid confusion. You can contact the hotel directly by calling them, the local telephone number you can get from Nehow's Local Guide after you finish the booking.

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

A late check-out can only be arranged with the hotel and usually depends on availability at the time of your stay. You can ask about the possibility at the front desk upon arrival.

Gorgeous property. Prime location on the Bund. Examplery service. Modern amenities. Also a Michelin 2-star restaurant, Yi Long Court, in the hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. All hotels should be like this one. Will come again!

  • A fantastic HQ while in a new city...

Edinburgh, United Kingdom | Dec 5, 2018 | Trip type: Business

The Hotel was a great and luxurious base to use as a platform while in Shanghai on a business trip.
The facilities, staff, food and rooms were unquestionable. Perhaps my only criticism the hotel still very much running in that colonial historic past and could do with moving slightly but not too far forward into modern expectations. The staff very stiff and lacking a personal touch. This is not true about the hidden gem that is the roof top bar. The best bar by a mile in Shanghai. Americk the bar host is slick, cool and gives exceptional service. All round a fantastic experience and would stay here again if I return to Shanghai. Immaculately clean and the bedrooms the best I have experienced in Asia.

Wonderful stay, Super attentive to details. Arrived on red eye in the morning and had a wonderful surprise that room was ready. Had expected to just drop bag off at bell hop and head into office. Not only room was ready for a quick shower, a light breakfast was prepared in the room awaiting! Hmmm... great anticipation!!

Morning breakfast was superb on the rest of the days. Try the porridge ... yummy. Get to run along the bund too in the mornings, better than the gym which is a little cramp. Love the location!

Gainesville, Georgia | Nov 26, 2018 | Trip type: Couples

It has been a blessing in my travels to enjoy great hotels around the world, but... The Peninsula Shanghai is the absolute best of the best. To quote my dear mother, “it’s delicious!” Located on the Bund, it is designed in the grand European tradition – not uncommon in Shanghai. On arrival, for no reason at all, we were upgraded to a fabulous suite with a view of the river and the spectacular nighttime skyline anchored on one end by the signature Oriental Pearl Tower and by Shanghai Tower, the world’s second tallest building, on the other. The hotel has a rooftop bar overlooking it all and serving hand crafted cocktails with a smile. Elsewhere on the grounds are unique restaurants serving High Tea as well as high grade Caviar on the same menu. Another bar offers a one-of-a-kind Peninsula McCallen scotch in a cask strength from 1991. Yet all these special offerings still rank second to the unparalleled quality of the staff. Observant. Kind. Attentive. Knowledgeable. Multicultural. Fluent in English and Mandarin and Spanish and more. Willing to serve your every need at any hour, the service is superb – in every sense of the word, from the foyer greeters to the room service someliers. Nothing is left to chance. I walked in one day having lost a button on my raincoat and the concierge not only fixed the runaway but also had every other button re-stitched for good measure. It was delivered to my valet box in under half an hour. This being the week before Thanksgiving, each morning we were treated to a new level of decorations adorning each corner of property. It was as if magical elves worked through the night just to improve the visual walk to breakfast. On Thanksgiving, there was a party in the lobby for the tree lighting and tasty food and drink for an impromptu 500 guests. We were sad to leave and took one more liberty in ordering the house car for the airport. When we arrived with our driver, there were two more Peninsula attendants waiting for us to help get us to the right ticket counter and safely on our way home. Thank goodness they were there because I accidentally left my cell phone in the car and they were able to call the driver to return. Crisis averted. Loyalty won. I hear there are Peninsula hotels in Bangkok, Paris, Hong Kong, Chicago, Beverly Hills and more. London and Istanbul are coming soon so I will start planning now!

  • Superb hotel and ideal location on the Bund
    annesA334NI
Uley, United Kingdom | Nov 24, 2018 | Trip type: Couples

We wanted a Bund view room in a luxury hotel.. We had fond memories being in Shanghai during the austere pre-Deng era and on that occasion we stayed at the Peace Hotel, which was in those days was quite an austere but venerable institution. The highlight of that trip was an outstanding meal in the Chinese restaurant overlooking the HuangPu which in those days was a muddy, smelly river teaming with wooden barges and Pudong was a swamp with a few hovels thereon. We therefore did a lot of research before travelling as to which hotel we would select for our return. After much deliberation we selected the Peninsula and booked a Deluxe King room with a Bund view dirct with the hotel.
The room was outstanding - a fantastic view and a very high class room with separate dressing area. Very quiet. The service in the hotel was first class, from doormen to bar staff. There are stories about how fast the service can be in Far Eastern hotels - we needed more bottled water, rang down and within 90 seconds, 6 bottles of water appeared at our door.
The breakfast buffet was excellent - we didn't need any cooked options. The ground floor bar is just as a bar should be, and does good beer. But the terrace bar on the top floor is amazing, with a fantastic view of the Bund all lit up at night with a wonderful light show. Just magical. The main restaurant - Sir Illy's - is also excellent - it does European food and is a Michelin one star. The sommelier, Stephen Lim, was exceptionally knowledgable and he and my husband spent quite some time discussing wines. The chef was relatively new to the restaurant and we decided to try his signature dish, chicken, as this is a dish that we don't normally have when eating out. It was superb and we were delighted when the chef came out so that we could praise him in person. The restaurant also has views over the Bund so that you don't miss out on the light show below.
This is a superb top class hotel and being here made an enormous difference to the pleasure we had in returning to Shanghai after 30 years. We visited the Peace while staying at the Peninsula and had no regrets about our choice.
Although the Peninsula is far from cheap we felt that it was good value.
