I will be arriving earlier/later than the stated check-in time. Can I still check in?

Usually this is not a problem; you can arrange for an after-hours check-in with most hotels. However, you should always confirm with the hotel. You can use the "Special Requests" box in the booking process to inform them of your estimated arrival time in writing. It's important to remember that the property can't always accommodate these requests. It's always best to check with the property directly and in advance to avoid confusion. You can contact the hotel directly by calling them, the local telephone number you can get from Nehow's Local Guide after you finish the booking.

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

A late check-out can only be arranged with the hotel and usually depends on availability at the time of your stay. You can ask about the possibility at the front desk upon arrival.

I just spent four nights at this beautiful hotel. The service was truly exceptional, with staff members going out of their way to handle every request with professionalism and grace. I have travelled extensively throughout the world for many years, and at Ritz Carlton hotels. This hotel, and this team are without a doubt, the very best.

Lily was a fantastic host and server as I took advantage of an 12 hour layover in Shanghai to visit the breakfast buffet. The food was delicious with a lot of variety in choices. Always appreciate a good omelete, croissant(s), and sausages. Lily was the highlight. A very friendly, attentive host but not obtrusive. Offered me a newspaper as I was dining alone without good internet access. Really appreciated her service.

To describe The Shanghai Ritz-Carlton Pudong Hotel warrants your arrival to fully experience and capture its aura. It is for some but not all visitors destined to beautiful Shanghai. There are many five-star hotels in Shanghai. What glows beyond the stars are this hotel’s team of: “… ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen.” They are exemplary. For me, the most memorable visits are the ones I experience with a personal story to share, whether from a small trivial detail or significant moment. On my recent stay, Marine Ma, Anna Sheng and Mike Wang were just a few of the ladies and gentlemen that went beyond expectations in performing endeavors of professionalism, knowledge, skills, care, kindness, privacy and safety with intuitive service prowess to make my stay comfortable, enjoyable and most memorable. It is with much pleasure for a constant traveler, such as myself, to find one word with ease that can describe my stay at the Ritz-Carlton Pudong…"Thoughtfulness." Professionalism comes from the Ritz-Carlton culture. Thoughtfulness comes from within each of their people. Thank you. Yes. I will return.

  • Felt like celebrities! ...with only a few minor points for improvement.
    Fiona W
    Jan 17, 2018 | Trip type: Couples

My partner and I stayed at this hotel on December 11, 2017, the day after he lost his passport, and we felt like treating ourselves after running around the Public Administration buildings in my hometown. We have stayed in 4-5 Star hotels in Sydney, our city of residence, many times before. However, I had discovered this hotel (and a very competitive Mandarin Oriental) on Hotels.com, and was immediate attracted by a room showing the Oriental Pearl Tower outside the floor-ceiling windows. The photos I have attached consist of the hotel's own, as well as mine.

    Major points for review:

    Location:
    - The hotel's check-in is on Level 52, with single rooms commencing from Level 39. It is part of HSBC building, and also part of a complex shopping zone. It was a little challenging to find, even with the regular arrows. We eventually got to the ground floor level, and were advised to go up to Level 52.
    - Tea on arrival was quite unreal. I had never experienced that in other hotels before.
    - We were escorted to our room on Level 39, and felt very welcome. That said though, I did kindly request whether we could be situated higher, and the request was not granted.

The room (not quite as clear on websites):
    - Beware of the photos on Hotels.com and other websites. The Oriental Pearl Tower view room that we booked had the Tower off to a corner, and our room essentially faced the other bank buildings/city street. I was tempted to give late-night employees a show XD. I regretted this, as I'd paid $100AUD extra over and above the Bund/River view. The Studio or the Suite option would have more window view towards the Tower and the River.
    - There was a blinking light on the ceiling that kept my partner awake, and the bedcovers were a bit too snug and warm, but Mirco Panella, Scena Restaurant Manager (when we'd shared our experience the next morning), was very attentive and kindly offered to fix the issue - even though we were on an overnight stay.
    - Prior to this, I had not had the luxury of pressing buttons to control for lighting and window drapes, but wow, did I feel like I was in some sci-fi setting.
    - The bathroom was EXQUISITE. All marble with fluffy towels and bathroom products. The shower was the rainforest ceiling kind, and it was rich and soothing after a bath. The only questionable part was that the toilet was in a cubicle (with a mirrored door) without ventilation.

    Dining:
    - This was INSANE. Scena Restaurant was quite busy for dinner, so we were seated to view the city lights again, but no matter! We'd ordered the Family Set Menu priced at RMB2,500 (approx $500 in Australian Dollars). The chef and the restaurant manager Mirco Panella kindly swapped the pasta dish for my half-Italian partner, who had preferred another type of pasta. I'm not quite a cream/cheese person due to its smell, but I was fine with it. The other dishes (pictured) were amazing. We also took photos with the chef and Mirco.
    - After dinner, we'd returned to find that a turndown service had been provided - slippers, lights dimmed for ambience, and a tray of services e.g. breakfast, shoe polish and laundry, and complimentary teabag.

    Breakfast:
    - Mirco was on duty again. He was full of passion for his role and it was amazing to see his enthusiasm. He took my partner's a la carte order, and more photos for us, and even offered to have coffee with us. The chef also came to visit again.
    - Unfortunately, I would not recommend the buffet. The preserved egg and pork congee was watery and was not savory. The buns and fried dough sticks were a bit dry. The bacon was a bit overcooked. Sausages were okay. The fruit (watermelon and blood oranges mostly) were also passable. They also did hún tún (wontons) to order, but it was not as nice as expected of the restaurant. I did not end up tasting the muffins, but there was not quite a selection.

All in all, the service was excellent, and the hotel was very good. There were many services we did not try e.g. minibar (other than water), or the spa services (priced up to RMB1,500 ($300AUD). We would return.

I have shared your kind words with my team. I am sorry that the view and buffet did not meet your expectations, and that your partner was bothered by the blinking light on the ceiling.

Cleared immigration within mins with a price ; same for PVG Airport to hotel; optional paid services offered by Ritz-Carlton . From PVG Airport to downtown took around 1 hour. Reached the hotel and everything was ready for you once i got out of car. The staff, Mia together with the porter (didn't manage to get his name) got the room keys on hand and brought me directly to my room (level 42). Yes i did the check-in in my room for the first time. Mia also passed me some personal notes on traveling in Shanghai as it was my first time. Room was amazing but bed and pillow were not to my liking. Water flask was not working. Other than that everything was excellent. Flair bar with great view of the oriental pearl tower 东方明珠塔 amazing attentive service from Jackie with complimentary dessert and appetizer drink. Ordered in advance my room service breakfast the previous night. It came punctual at my requested time. Check out was amazing too except for some wait due to many guests. Just my 2 cents worth of a night stay. It's amazing when people just notice your presences wherever i go within the hotel. They also call a cab for me to go to Marriott hotel. While waiting, Toledo was chatting with me till my cab is here. Amazing stay. Service is good
