I will be arriving earlier/later than the stated check-in time. Can I still check in?

Usually this is not a problem; you can arrange for an after-hours check-in with most hotels. However, you should always confirm with the hotel. You can use the "Special Requests" box in the booking process to inform them of your estimated arrival time in writing. It's important to remember that the property can't always accommodate these requests. It's always best to check with the property directly and in advance to avoid confusion. You can contact the hotel directly by calling them, the local telephone number you can get from Nehow's Local Guide after you finish the booking.

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

A late check-out can only be arranged with the hotel and usually depends on availability at the time of your stay. You can ask about the possibility at the front desk upon arrival.

  • Great Experience
Manila, Philippines | Mar 14, 2019 | Trip type: Business

I thoroughly enjoyed staying in this hotel. The room was a suite and the view was overpowering. The amenities in the room was complete there is nothing more you can ask for. It felt fresh, well organized and relaxing. You can have a staycation just staying in your room the whole day. Breakfast overlooking the river is a great way to start your day. A great experience.

  • Amazing Hotel - Great Staff - Fantastic Hotel Experience
Rochester, New York | Mar 13, 2019 | Trip type: Business

I stayed in the Ritz Carlton Shenzhen for 3 days in February 2019. What an amazing hotel!!! I loved the entire experience from the arrival until my departure. The hotel staff are the best trained staff anywhere in the world. The concierge service was amazing and they went out of their way to help me for booking and other services. The room was on the 16th floor with an amazing view and incredible amenities The only drawback was the limited options for breakfast for vegetarians and Jewish/Muslim guests. I tried to have breakfast at the hotel but I was disappointed with the limited food selection.I talked with the manager and shared my dissatisfaction but there was no remedy offered, then I did not go back for breakfast again. Other than this small issue, I would highly recommend this hotel over any other hotels in Shenzhen. I would definitely go back to this hotel again, hopefully in September 2019.

  • One of the Best in Shenzhen Futian
    Mar 10, 2019 | Trip type: Business

Just stayed there last week. Again, for my biz trip. I wouldn't hesitate to say it is one of the best places in Shenzhen Futian. Especially, I'd like to highlight its Club Lounge where I really enjoyed a wide variety of food and drink as well as excellent service by professional staff members like Erik, Serena, Cici, Shirley, and many more. Also, I won't forget the warm and kind welcome every morning and night by the lobby staff members like Sam.
I am looking forward to my next visit. Thanks all.

  • Wonderful location. Very good overall experience but lacking in some area...
Pleasanton, California | Mar 8, 2019 | Trip type: Business

I think for most people, staying at the Ritz anywhere in the world is a pleasant experience. The over the top service and that extra special touch is why many of us pay what we pay. I stayed in the Shenzhen Ritz two times in the past month. My overall experience is very positive but there are definitely room for improvements.

Let me start with the positives as they definitely outweigh the negative experiences I had:

    1. Staff are very friendly and attentive . Unlike other so-called 5-star hotels, I never had to open the front door once throughout both of my stays. And I go in/out of the hotel frequently.

    2. A member of the staff reached out to me 2 days prior to my arrival on my second stay and offered his assistance. So, I made a couple of requests and they were fulfilled. Excellent job!

    3. It's smiles everywhere you look each time you walk into the lobby. Who doesn't like seeing that?

    4. The facility is well maintained and does not feel dated in any way.

    5. Staff are very accommodating to reasonable requests concerning room check in/out time

    6. Location of the hotel is wonderful. It offers easy access to the metro below and some really great local restaurants all within a short walking distance. And taxi rates are super cheap in Shenzhen so you can also take a taxi everywhere without feeling a pinch.

Now for some of the low-lights during my stays:

    1. While the staff are friendly and smiling all the time, it felt kind of "forced". That is, it didn't feel genuine at all. I've stayed in many luxury hotels around the world and this is the only place where I felt the staff were smiling because they had to. I'd suggest management focus on training the staff to be more engaged with their guests and not just smile and nod at them. Ask questions like "How's your stay so far?", "How was your day?", "Do you need any recommendations for a night out?" etc. That just add a bit of personal touch. It never hurts to engage your guests in a simple conversation as we're dealing with human beings and not robots.

    2. While there were plenty of breakfast options at the breakfast buffet, the quality of the items are definitely lacking, especially with the western options. The country potatoes (way too spicy), sausages (way too blend and tasteless), roasted tomatoes (burnt), etc all fall short of expectations. The Chinese food items are good in general.

    3. Throughout both of my stays, I had buffet breakfast everyday. And EVERY SINGLE DAY I had to ask the server for a refill of my coffee multiple times during my meal. I have never stayed at a luxury hotel where I had to ask for a refill of my coffee or water more than once. F&B service workers should know that refilling the customer's cup with water/coffee/team is one of the most basic services that needs to be proactively done. I've been to small town diners where my coffee cup never goes more than half empty without one of the servers come filling it up. This is an area where management can provide additional training so your staff is more in-line with global service standards.

    4. The spa offers a jacuzzi, sauna, showers, and steam room for hotel guests. The English brochure in the room suggests guests put on swim wear while using the jacuzzi while the Chinese brochure makes no mention of the swim wear requirement. So, needless to say, those of us who read the English version shows up in swimming trunks while all the Chinese guests show up naked in the jacuzzi. I think some attention is needed to update the brochures to ensure the same message is communicated to your guests from various nations.

    5. While the spa facility is well equip, the facility fails to enforce the "No Cell Phone Usage" policy it states in the brochure. Many of their guests come in using their cell phones. Some even make and receive calls throughout the time they spent in the facility. The staff never intervened nor are there any visible signs in the facility discouraging cell phone usage. Most of us go in the spa area to wind down. Having someone talk loudly on the phone is absolutely NOT what we expect or want to experience.

    6. This may be a one-off but in one instance, a housekeeping staff member came out of the elevator cutting us off while we were about the enter. She smile and nodded but we thought that was unusual to see since what we always experience is the staff holding the elevator door open for us while we enter and they exit after we have made our entry. It is just one of those things that stands out negatively.

All of the luxury hotels I've stayed in have wonderful facilities, dine options, and pleasant staff. What sets some apart is the attention to detail they offer. In most of the Ritz properties I have stayed in, the standards are well above average. It is generally consistent across the board. I think this is an area where this hotel can use some improvements. Just training staff to smile and nod at your should be the minimum.

Having said all this, I still would stay at this property the next time I'm in town mainly for its location. I just hope I don't have to ask for my coffee to be refilled the next time I go in for breakfast. I do hope my candid review will help this hotel become even better for their guests.
