I will be arriving earlier/later than the stated check-in time. Can I still check in?

Usually this is not a problem; you can arrange for an after-hours check-in with most hotels. However, you should always confirm with the hotel. You can use the "Special Requests" box in the booking process to inform them of your estimated arrival time in writing. It's important to remember that the property can't always accommodate these requests. It's always best to check with the property directly and in advance to avoid confusion. You can contact the hotel directly by calling them, the local telephone number you can get from Nehow's Local Guide after you finish the booking.

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

I want to check out after the stated check-out time. What should I do?

A late check-out can only be arranged with the hotel and usually depends on availability at the time of your stay. You can ask about the possibility at the front desk upon arrival.

This review is written by a platinum member of the LeCLub loyalty program, while also being a member of Accor Plus. The room is an Executive Room.

The hotel is centrally located on Xiamen island with the scenic spots being a short taxi ride away. Xiamen Railway Station is about a 15-minute drive away and the airport is under 30 minutes away. Xiamen currently only has one metro line and the nearest station is about a 2km walk from the hotel. There are nearby bus stations and it is convenient to organise a Didi or taxi. The hotel itself it located on a small island in the middle of a small lake, which means there is minimal street noise.

Check in was efficient and we were given an upgrade from a Superior Room Lake View to an Executive Room. Two drink vouchers were provided. We were informed of the restaurant breakfast times. I enquired about the happy hour time (6:30-8:00), but nothing was mentioned that the lounge was closed for renovations and the happy hour was provided in the restaurant. We discovered this when we tried to attend the executive lounge and there was a sign.

Standard Pullman drink vouchers in China, including at this hotel, state that they can be redeemed for Pullman specialty cocktails, among the standard offerings. Despite this, we were only offered a choice of beer, soft drink and juice. A 4pm late check out was granted. We were not provided with a welcome letter, which really should be standard for all rooms, but especially for those staying in Executive Rooms or Platinum members, to inform them of any additional benefits and lounge meal times. We were not provided with the welcome amentity that gold/platinum members are supposed to receive.

The rooms are starting to show their age but are still in good condition. We received an Executive Room on the 9th floor, with fantastic views over the lake. The room was quite musty and smelly at first; I guess that the room had not been used for some time prior to our stay. This musty-ness cleared up within a couple of hours. We did ask the bellboy, who helped us with out luggage, about the smell, and he simply said he did not think it was smelly and opened the window for us. The bed was comfortable and came with two oversized pillows to sit up against and two pillows that were borderline too low and soft for me, but I made do. There is no pillow menu offered. The TV allowed easy access to HDMI and USB ports. The room’s Wifi had a built in VPN that allowed access to websites such as Google, Facebook and Reddit. Speeds were decent. A yoga mat was provided in the closet and there was a small booklet with a range of yoga exercises.

The bathroom is small but functional. Amenities are the Pullman standard CO Bigelow. The shower is tiny but has good water pressure and temperature. There is nowhere near enough bench space in the bathroom. As with all hotel rooms these days it seems, there is a window between the bathroom and bedroom which had a blind for privacy. Unfortunately, the blind did not go all the way to the edge of the window, and the small ‘non-covered’ part of the window was directly opposite the toilet, so you could see someone 'doing their business' from the bed.

The buffet spread is decent at this hotel, but nothing to write home about. Limited Western options and many of the Chinese options had a bit of a ‘gluggy’ sauce – perhaps local food is like this in Xiamen? For a supposed 5* hotel, service was non-existent. We were not seated at a table and not once in our three mornings were we offered tea or coffee.

We had an enjoyable dinner on our first evening at the hotel. The lamb was delicious and cooked to perfection and the pizza was good. As our meals would take about half an hour to come, the restaurant manager allowed us to help ourselves to the dessert station of the buffet, which was a bit odd to start with dessert, but it was appreciated. I enjoyed a very drinkable Chilean cabernet sauvignon with my lamb. While we were initially given table water, our water glasses were never refilled, I was not offered a top up of my wine and no one came to check on our meals. Upon being seated, the restaurant manager informed us that we could enjoy a 50% discount on food, in line with Accor Plus policy. When settling the account, a different member of staff tried to tell us that the 50% discount only applied to the buffet and that, as we had ordered a-la-carte, we were only entitled to a 15% discount. We asked to see the restaurant manager, who promptly gave us the correct discount. It is apparent that staff training is required on Accor Plus discount rates.

Happy hour was an interesting affair. As the lounge is closed for renovations, it is held in the restaurant and you order from a menu. Even though the order sheet has three ‘menus’ to order from (with some overlapping choices), we were just advised to order what we wanted. The seafood pasta was very good; everything else was nothing special. The cheddar and swiss cheeses tasted a bit weird (perhaps too long in the fridge?) but the soft cheese was very nice. Unfortunately, we were told that the drinks only included soft drinks – no alcoholic beverages were provided with this happy hour service - a FIRST for any hotel executive lounge happy hour that I have ever attended.

The hotel has an indoor lap pool, with about four or so lanes. The gym equipment seems a bit dated, but the gym is quite large. There is also a sauna.

Overall, this is a decent hotel, but the standard of service needs work. It would have been nice to have been informed in advance, or upon check in, about the state of the executive lounge. While the food in the international restaurant was decent enough, service needs prompt attention. Points and nights were posted within 24 hours of departure.

  • nice hotel but English is a problem

    Hotel is nice, but.....
By checking in i was downgraded being a gold member. After telling it to the manager (the only one speaking English) i was upgraded to the suite. So far so good. But The people at the reception are slow, do not understand English. We asked 2 times if their was a massage service in the hotel. 2 times the answer was no and we were send to a place 10min away from the hotel. On the last day we went to the swimming pool and what did we see? Yes a massage center :) The business lounge was closed (we were not informed upfront) we got our happy hour food and drinks in the big retaurant. Ok but it wasn't so relax as in a lounge.

  • Good Hotel in Xiamen

Just a good hotel in Xiamen. Experience from other Pullman hotels in China were more personal. Front desk staff were professional. Restaurant staff were more helpful and friendly. Food was good too.

Room is Pullman standard, modern and nice. No issues with the room. Wifi worked and TV with plenty of channels mostly Chinese.Views from room windows were good but it was raining during our stay.

Can take bus number 8 outside the hotel to Zhongshan Road shopping area. Our stay was good.
