A clean and quiet hostel in a great location, with a beautiful building. Make sure to check out their rooftop on a clear night.
As for getting there, don't waste time messing around with the buses, like we did. Just take the metro if you can.
Large hostel with great access
Ryosuke MMitaka, Japan | Jul 23, 2017 | Trip type: Friends getaway
A very large hostel right by the entrance of the Ancient City Wall. Overall I had a comfortable stay: beds were comfortable, the showers were clean, and there were plenty of public spaces to talk and relax. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and a bus station that has routes to everywhere you’ll want to go.
If you’re coming from the airport, it’s somewhat inconvenient because it’s a 2 hour bus ride + a 30 minute walk to the hostel. Wi-Fi was unreliable at times in the bedrooms, but that’s to be expected for a hostel.
Perfect location and resourcing atmosphere

Our 5 days at the Youth Hostel were a great experience. Location is perfect between the Southern Gate of the historical city wall and the Bell Tower at the city centre. The building is an old house nicely accommodated to preserve a peaceful atmosphere for all guests. Our standard double room was big enough (around 20sqm) with comfortable bed, renovated bathroom with 24/24 hot water. It was located on 3rd storey with a window on a quiet interior patio. No window to the outside which is great as we didn’t have any noise from nearby streets.
No lifts, so guests with heavy luggage will have to accommodate with the wide easy staircases or may ask for rooms at lower storeys.
Nice amenities including laundry, reading room (Chinese and English books), great outdoor terrace at 4rd storey, cosy bar and glass roof restaurant with plants, sofas, birds and relaxing music. Three varieties of breakfast plus a la carte and long list of foods for lunch and dinner. Reception is well organized. There is always one nice staff around to speak with you in English if your Chinese is not to standard.
We found this place perfectly re-energizing after our long tiring days in Xi’an area.
Great place to stay
FrostyNottinghamNottingham | May 4, 2017 | Trip type: Family
We spend three nights here in April 2017. We were very pleasantly surprised with our room which was spacious and clean. The beds were very comfortable and the e-suite was really nice and had clean white towels.
The staff were great and helped us book trips, reflexology sessions and also supplied us with soap powder and the correct coins for our laundry. The dining area/bar/lounge was a great area to meet and relax. There was also a study area with computer and and area where you can choose and hire bicycles.
On the roof was the drying area and also a really nice seating area where there were great views over the Xian City Wall.
The hostel is close to the South Gate which is very convenient for the bicycle hire stations on the wall and also for the weekend evening celebrations, which take place at the South Gate.
It is very central and we were able to walk to the Bell and Drum tower and to the Muslim Quarter.
We booked reflexology sessions on the morning before we left for Shanghai. The guy that did it was great and we all felt relaxed ready for our flight.
We were very comfortable here and our only regret was that we did not stay longer.

My friend and I did a budget trip and stayed in this hostel for a week. We stayed at a private standard room. Two beer coupons were provided upon our check-in. Although our room was located at the second floor facing the Xiangzimiao Street, luckily it didn’t suffer much from noise at grade. Size and cleanness of the room is acceptable. Hot water for bath and heating are available 24/7. What a pity is that there was a smell of cigarette while the room was marked as non-smoking. Meanwhile, hot drinking water only available at the ground floor of Block A.
This hostel is full of great Chinese traditional elements in terms of its structure, interior design and decoration. As the hostel is re-furnished from a traditional siheyuan (a historical type of residence), it doesn't have any escalator. Location of the hostel is great, in which you can easily visit attractions like the Bell Tower, Drum Tower and Muslim Street within a 10 mins walk, or through a 3 min Metro ride with a one station distance. People who want to have a taste of night life can visit bars and café along the Defu Alley, where just take you a one min walk from the hostel. The hostel has a roof-top garden at the 4/F of Block A, which is a great location to enjoy the night scenery of the ancient city wall and the city. Activities like dumpling night and Karaoke night were sometimes organised by the hostels for fun during weekends.
