    On our visit to China we stayed at Sofitel Legend in Xian.
    This is an outstanding top class hotel! From check-in to check-out 3 days later everyone was most welcoming. The room was most comfortable with top service. Every evening there was some tasty cookies awaiting on our return from tours.
    The one suggestion: Maybe there could be more lighting in the exterior of hotel entrance.
    I would no doubt stay at Sofitel Legend again

    We had a wonderful stay at this amazing hotel. The service level is top-notch and room is exceptionally clean. The hotel is within walking distance to many eating places. Would definitely choose this hotel again should we ever return to Xian.

    I was little bit disappointed. Maybe I had too high expectation prior my arrival since it is Sofitel Legend and maybe I had lots of good experiences as a Fairmont platinum. When I tried to check in around 3ish, I was told my room was not ready. My son and I were still suffering from jet leg and sitting in the sofa waiting silly. Then I requested a taxi going out since I was not sure when the room was ready. After another 10 minutes without any result, I went to inquire about the status. I was told taxi was not available since it was a rush time. Actually, I would be happily accepting more expensive options like Quick Cab, Special cab or even hotel car arrangement. But there was no communication in term of that.

    After I came back after dinner with friends and unloaded my luggage’s, I was offered room upgrade. It was really a nice gesture. But I would appreciate more if it was offered when I checked in.

    The choices of breakfast were adequate. They even have some special local foods made to order. But the taste was just okay.

    Overall, I didn’t feel Sofitel Legend stands out as being promoted. Maybe I will try out another location to feel the legendary essence.

    Checked in over the New Year for 3 nights. We moved from Sofitel Renmin Square to Legend hoping it’d be something special.
    Check in was by the ‘butlers’, no other reception desk. I must admit I was a little disappointed. The club lounge was actually the small lobby bar. Time was only from 5:30-7:30 pm. Food was very limited and often run out. Buffet breakfast was held in their Italian restaurant. Small but adequate. Smoked salmon was served. Didn’t like that you had to order your eggs or noodles through the waiters as it was very slow service. Food selection was better at Renmin Square. However, the food often run out and it takes them sometime to refill. The feeling was thriftiness which certainly doesn’t suit a 5 star super luxurious brand. The Renmin Square hotel felt generous. I liked the layout and decor of the hotel room better than Renmin Square. Because of its size, you’re greeted whenever you step into the little lobby. It’s a nice feeling. We purchased the Tang Dynasty Show tickets from them even though it was more expensive thinking that we’d get good seats but they had to call the agent from Renmin Square. When we arrived to the venue, it was a big mess and we had to collect our tickets. The counter could not find our booking number and so handed us the cheapest seats. Dingyi, my driver for the day has offered me a cheaper price which included transport to and fro.
    You can make use of all the Accor hotels facilities in Renmin Square being in Legend but not vice versa. Unfortunately we missed checking out the bar (no free welcome drinks l). We had hoped to have a nice New Year’s Eve dinner but there wasn’t anything special. You are invited to go on a short tour which we couldn’t make. We missed their evening cocktails, very limited food (loved the Kunming Sofitel selections).
    Perhaps my expectation was too high so a little disappointed in the hotel.

    For the Tang Dynasty Show experience that you mentioned, the price that you paid to our partner was exactly same as the price if you purchase at Tang Dynasty. According to my investigation, you were escorted by a staff of Tang Dynasty to the best seat within the range of your ticket price. Nevertheless, we totally understand your feeling, and we have already discussed your comments with the travel agent.

  • Gorgeous, luxurious rooms & interior but customer service could be more personable

    We stayed 3 nights in a Premium Room. The room was spacious and well thought-out with good interior detailing and the finishes were decent. Lanvin amenities, evian bottled water, nightly turn-down service and the very comfy bedroom slippers and evening cocktails in the lobby bar were a nice touch. Room facilities, like ample charging ports, were well thought-out. The only qualm I have was the light from the touch panels by the bedside. Although the lights were all off, there was still too much light glowing from the touch panels and we couldn't figure out if it could be turned off.

    CUSTOMER SERVICE ACCOLADES & IMPROVEMENT
    The lady who checked us in on the first day was professional and nice. So was the tall, older gentleman at the concierge, he had a genuine and kind smile which was always a welcome. We would also like to thank the gentleman who brought us our luggage and who gave us advice (contrary to the the check-in desk's advice) to take a cab instead of the metro to the North Xi'an Station. He even arranged a taxi for us at 7am and ensure we were on time to the station. This is THE WAY in terms of customer service, looking to service from the perspective of the guests and anticipating their needs.

    Although the staff in the Sofitel Legend were competent, professional and attentive, we often felt uncomfortable when they approached or greeted us, as it felt very official and stoic; and their awkwardness in trying to do their best was obvious. Perhaps it could be good to engage guests in more genuine and warm conversations, like talking to friends and asking about their day or plans.

    MINI BAR SNAFU
    Although the mini-bar was free, we were informed that it was only for the first consumption (despite the number of nights we stayed), if items were consumed after replenishment, they will be charged accordingly. This was a tad odd. It's a small amount so we didn't really care, but considering we booked it for 3 nights, we would have expected the mini-bar to be refreshed for free daily. Anyway, wasn't that much of a big deal but it was more a matter of principle.

    SWIMMING POOL/GYM CHANGING ROOM/LOCKER
    For a hotel of this calibre, we were surprised to find that there was no changing room or locker room for the gym or swimming pool. The facilities were side by side. Although the gym facilities were ok, it was small and definitely not big enough during peak periods. It seemed like it was added on as an after thought. For the swimming pool, we were eager to take a dip BUT realised there wasn't any changing room for us to get out of our wet swimwear. This would mean that after taking a swim, we couldn't change out of our wet trunks, had to walk pass the main lobby to get back to our room, leaving a trail of pool water. We didn't fancy wearing a robe down as well as there was no separate access to the gym except via the main lobby lifts. So we decided NOT to swim, which was a pity as the pool looked great!

    This is definitely a design oversight with regards to a luxury hotel experience. We don't think much can be done considering it was transformed from a government office to a hotel.

    All in all, it was nice to have experienced this hotel, to wander in the hotel's museum and marvel at its role in history since it was built in the 50s. It being one of the 5 Sofitel Legends in the world, it would be great if it could truly live up to its potential.
