Lying at the center of Beijing, the Forbidden City was the imperial palace for 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and stood to represent the supreme power of the emperor. Shrouded in mystery and isolation for generations, and standing at what was believed to be the center of the universe, the city complex comprises a myriad number of courtyards and palaces all guarded by 4 exquisite watchtowers sitting at the corners of the 33-foot (10 meter) high outer wall. With roofs covered with golden glazed tile, red painted walls, and an expanse of brick-paved squares, the Forbidden City is a treasure house of cultural and historical relics.
